Recently, the Australian Cardijn Institute (ACI), together with Cardijn Community Australia (CCA), came together to raise funds in support of the daughter (Baby Eliana) of a former Young Christian Workers (YCW) Philippines leader. This generous response was a concrete expression of Cardijn solidarity—showing that commitment to young workers does not end when formal leadership roles conclude.
This action highlights the vital role of adult Cardijn movements in accompanying and sustaining the YCW. Movements such as ACI and CCA provide continuity, organisational capacity, and care, ensuring that YCW workers and their families are not left isolated when hardship arises. In doing so, they embody the intergenerational responsibility that Joseph Cardijn envisioned for the movement.
At the same time, this experience points to a broader challenge. Support for YCW workers and their families often depends on ad‑hoc appeals and personal networks. While these responses are generous and effective, they also reveal the need for a more sustainable and transparent platform to channel assistance—one that honours dignity, ensures accountability, and strengthens solidarity across the international Cardijn family.

CCA invites members and partners to contribute ideas and reflections on how adult Cardijn movements might work together—locally and internationally—to develop a sustainable support mechanism for YCW workers and their families.
