But the laity, by their very vocation, seek the kingdom of God by engaging in temporal affairs and by ordering them according to the plan of God. They live in the world, that is, in each and in all of the secular professions and occupations. They live in the ordinary circumstances of family and social life, from which the very web of their existence is woven. They are called there by God that by exercising their proper function and led by the spirit of the Gospel they may work for the sanctification of the world from within as a leaven.

Mission Statement
Inspired by the life and work of Joseph Cardijn, Cardijn Community Australia (CCA) is a network of laypeople, clergy, and religious committed to living out the “specifically lay apostolate of the laity.” Guided by Cardijn’s Three Truths dialectic and the See-Judge-Act method, we seek to transform both ourselves and the world through reflection, discernment, and action.
We believe that personal growth and collective responsibility are inseparable. Through faith, dialogue, and solidarity, we aim to build a more just and compassionate society.
Our Vision
To continue Cardijn’s mission of empowering the laity—particularly young workers—to:
- Recognise their Christian vocation in everyday life,
- Reclaim the dignity of work,
- Promote social justice and collective action across all areas of society.
Our Work
We pursue our mission through six key areas:
1. Develop Small Groups
We nurture communities that meet regularly to reflect on their lives in the light of the Gospel, discern social realities, and take meaningful action.
2. Collaborate with Allied Organisations
We work in partnership with like-minded movements and institutions to amplify our impact and promote the common good.
3. Provide Training and Resources
We offer workshops, publications, and mentoring to educate individuals in Cardijn’s methods and Catholic Social Teaching.
4. Reflect on the Signs of the Times
We analyse current events and social structures to understand the challenges facing our communities and to inform our responses.
5. Act on Social Issues
We mobilise collective action to address the needs of young workers and broader societal concerns, rooted in faith and solidarity.
6. Facilitate Summer Schools and Retreats
We host educational programmes for seminarians, chaplains, and laypeople to deepen their understanding of social justice and their commitment to transformative action.
